Visiting Moab, Southeastern & Central Utah

Utah’s Heritage Highway 89 takes travelers through historic and scenic central Utah Communities. Winter travel down Highway 89 or Interstate 15 means caution during storms; however the rewards include spectacular snowmobiling along Skyline Drive, ice fishing at Fish Lake and snowshoeing trails through Capitol Reef National Park. Eagle Point Ski Area east of Beaver, offers ideal family skiing and boarding; Richfield and Sevier County’s ATV trails fill with snowmobiles; and Arches National Park near Moab becomes even more spectacular with a dusting of snow. Celebrate in Millard County at the Snow Goose Festival and with the first sign of spring, visit Moab for some cool weather mountain biking.

Central Utah communities have at one thing in common – the passion and support of their local sports teams. Nephi’s Juab High School Wasps draw families and visitors to the stands cheering on the boys and girls basketball, as they face off with their central Utah competitors including the Beaver Beavers, Richfield Wildcats and Fillmore’s Millard High School Eagles. Be prepared on game days for the excitement of small town Utah sports.

Central Utah’s February skies fill with Snow Geese on their migration to points north. Fillmore and Millard County celebrate the spectacle at the Millard County Snow Goose Festival at Gunnison Bend Reservoir, outside the community of Delta. Warm up with a 5k or 10k run, part of the Wild Goose Chase, browse the Snow Goose Craft Fair and Quilt Show and test your skills at the Snow Goose Skeet Shoot. The Delta Snow Goose Festival is a sure sign spring is just around the corner in central Utah.

Eagle Point, one of Utah’s newest winter sports resorts, is located 20 miles east of Beaver. Conveniently located on Interstate 15, the community of Beaver welcomes winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy the slopes of the area's Tushar Mountains. Eagle Point offers 5 lifts accessing 600 skiable acres with 1,500 vertical feet. A great family ski and snowboarding resort, a day at Eagle Point Resort is affordable and waits for the lifts are rare.

As Sevier County transitions to winter, the ATV trails become that much more exciting with snow and mud adding to the adventure. Soon Richfield fills with snowmobile trailers as central Utah winter sets in. Trails along the Sevier River take adventurers 30 miles south to Big Rock Candy Mountain, even more scenic with winter snow. Stop and refresh yourself with the water from famous Lemonade Springs – close your eyes for a taste and see if the story is true.

Moab in eastern Utah, offers winter travelers a diversity of choices for adventure. Near the Manti-La Sal National Forest, Moab offers snow sports enthusiasts excellent backcountry trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Come March, the streets and trails of Moab come alive with events including the Moab MRAC Attack 2013 Spring Mini-Triathlon and the 2013 Moab Skinny Tire Festival.
