Visiting Moab, Southeastern & Central Utah
Central Utah is a collection of small communities rich in southwest and Mormon heritage and culture. Richfield, the hub of Sevier County, thrives on the surrounding mountains, lakes, and outdoor trails for activity and adventure. Just off of Interstate 70, Richfield is home to the Sevier Valley Center, hosting a diversity of local sports championships, along with well known entertainment.
In Richfield, the Sevier Center’s 2014 winter calendar includes the Jordan World Circus on Martin Luther King day and the Beehive Brawl High School Wrestling Tournament on January 24th and 25th. The well-known band Styx takes the stage February 10th, before the Utah 1A and 2A high school basketball championships fill the center the last weeks of February and first week of March.
Traveling south from Utah’s urban concentration along the Wasatch Mountains, drivers pass the community of Nephi, a convenient stopping and refueling point along Interstate 15. Branding itself the "Friendly City at the Crossroads of Utah," Nephi is a common marker for travelers through the Beehive State on their way to destinations east including Central Utah’s Skyline Drive, a popular snowmobiling destination in winter.
Travel through Spanish Fork Canyon to Price, the heart of Utah’s Castle Country, to Canyonlands National Park which celebrates its 50th anniversary during 2014. Visitors to Moab this year, be sure to check out the special Canyonlands festivities marking the 50th anniversary. Moab creates 2014 Midwinter Mayhem on January 25th and 26th, with two days of exciting roller derby competition. Don’t miss the main event Saturday night when Utah faces off with Colorado.
President’s Day Weekend brings the Moab Red Hot 55K & 33K to east central Utah’s Red Rock country. The 2014 endurance run is the 8th Annual Moab Red Hot, drawing runners to experience the spectacular snow-tipped red rock scenery surrounding Moab March events in Moab include the Moab Skinny Tire Festival and the Canyonland’s Half Marathon.
The Moab Skinny Tire Festival features four days of road cycling along the Colorado River. 2014 events are March 8th through 11th and include courses through Arches National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park overlooking Canyonlands. The 39th annual Canyonlands Half Marathon also includes a five-mile run through scenic Moab Red Rock country and post race festivities in downtown.
