Visiting Moab, Southeastern & Central Utah | Fall 2014

It’s a beautiful time for a road trip across central Utah’s one-of-a-kind scenery – especially for outdoor enthusiasts.  Beaver, nestled against the base of the Tushar Mountains, gives residents and visitors quick access to spots like Eagle Point Ski Area. Before the “Greatest Snow on Earth” comes in late December, Eagle Point’s grassy slopes are popular for horseback riding, mountain biking, paintball, and more.

Beaver also makes one of the best base camps for ATV and off-road enthusiasts this season. The Paiute ATV Trail is the largest ATV and recreational vehicle trails in the country and a loop of the trail cuts straight through town.

Visitors to Nephi City can get into the holiday spirit early by hopping aboard Nephi Ghost Tours. This hayride through town highlights locations where ghosts have been sighted, while the Nephitellers regale the group with spooky stories, every Friday, Saturday, and Monday night through the end of October.

Proceeds from the Nephi Ghost Tours benefit the Juab Fine Arts Council, which presents a wealth of entertainment to residents and visitors this fall. The Juab Fine Arts Council's Murder Mystery Dinner Theater production of "Schoolhouse Masquerade Murders” is October 18th through 20th and “The Nutcracker” runs December 5th, 6th, and 8th. Both shows will be held in the Juab Fine Arts Auditorium.

Moab residents and visitors celebrate centuries-old traditions in a whole new way, November 7th through 9th, when the 2014 Scots on the Rocks Moab Celtic Festival fills the Old Spanish Trails Arena. The fun is set to include bagpipe bands, vendors with unique Celtic offerings, heavy athletics and Scottish games, a beer pavilion, and more – all amid a beautiful red-rock setting.

The main events in Canyonlands National Park’s 50th anniversary celebrations were held in September, but it’s not too late to get out and take advantage of the park’s 337,598 acres of opportunities for outdoor adventures. Through the beginning of November, the weather is still perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and four-wheeling, and you can even cast a line in stretches of the Green River and the Colorado River. The most common catches this time of year are carp and catfish.
