Visiting Moab, Southeastern and Central Utah

Central Utah is light on population but rich in natural outdoors resources. The Heritage Highway – Highway 89 takes travelers through historic small towns like Spring City, Mt Pleasant, Marysvale and Hatch. Towns like Ephraim, Nephi and Moroni, reflect their Mormon Heritage in name and culture. Outdoor recreation abounds in Central Utah. The Piute Trail offers miles of wilderness access to ATV and OVH riders. Fishlake National Forest is one of several prime outdoor areas for fishing and boating. Nine Mile Canyon offers a glimpse back into history with a myriad of ancient rock art. The densest concentration of dinosaur bones on earth can be found south of Price at Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry.

For the fifth year in a row, the 2010 Goblin Valley Ultra Marathon will be held near Green River. This challenging race includes a 50K, 25K and 10k run for experienced runners and a 5 mile run for beginners, with all ages welcome. The courses are set in the amazing Goblin Valley State Park with various start times for the races. Race festivities include a Halloween Costume Ball on Saturday night with prizes, so bring the kids along. Travelers will find the Best Western Carriage House Inn in Price along the route to Goblin Valley State Park. Comfortable accommodations at reasonable rates make it an ideal spot for lodging.

The fall exhibits at the Springville Museum of Art, south of Provo, in Springville are well-worth a visit. The Art of Topaz: Beauty Inside Barbed Wire is an amazing exhibit of art created by residents of Topaz, an internment camp for Japanese Americans during WW II. The exhibition runs through October 15th. Also through October 15th, Sergei Bongart: Russian Master Painter of Light and Color is on exhibition.

The Best Western Mountain View Inn in Springville is convenient for visitors to the area, located off I-15, with easy access to Provo and BYU. Enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast each morning before enjoying the day’s activities.

The Nebo Loop Scenic Byway through the Uinta National Forest near Payson and Nephi is perfect in the fall. Witness the brilliance of the fall foliage as the road climbs over 9,000 feet in elevation. Enjoy the magnificent views of the valleys below as well as Mount Nebo, the tallest mountain in the Wasatch Mountain Range. Wildlife is commonly spotted along the 38 mile loop, so bring the camera; this is a beautiful morning or afternoon trip.

The Best Western Paradise Inn of Nephi is at the south end of the Nebo Loop offering clean and comfortable accommodations for visitors. The hotel is pet-friendly so bring the dog along for the ride. Also close to the Little Sahara Sand Dunes and the Young Living Family Farms, there is plenty to see and do while you are in the area.
