Days of '47 Parades
Utahns Catch Three Different Parades
The Utah Pioneer Day celebration features three different parades – all celebrating the historic arrival of the first Salt Lake Valley settlers. Set less than 15 miles south of Salt Lake City, Sandy is a charming, and hospitable city in northern Utah.
Sandy is the central location for the All Horse Parade. The All Horse Parade is set for July, with a central idea of showcasing the finest horses, authentic costumes, wagons and carriages, and drill teams from around the state. The All Horse Parade is free and open to the public.
In Salt Lake City, make plans to attend the Days of ’47 Union Pacific Youth Parade. Set for mid-July, the Days of ’47 Union Pacific Youth Parade gives local children a hands-on approach to celebrating Utah Pioneer Day, with performing groups, decorated floats, and marching bands.
One of the participating floats will win entry into the the Big Parade, held a week later – floats are judged based on how accurately they portray the Days of ’47 theme: Pioneers – Building on the Dream.
Known by most locals as the Big Parade, the Days of ’47 KSL 5 Parade is set for late July, in downtown Salt Lake City. Nearby North Salt Lake, and Park City are premier destinations if you’re looking to visit for Utah Pioneer Day. The KSL 5 Parade will feature festive floats, along with bands, horses, and clowns.
