Golden Spike National Historic Site

Found along Interstate 84, the Golden Spike National Historic Site is located in northern Utah – just north of Salt Lake City.

This 2,735-acre site, located at Promontory Summit north of Brigham City and Ogden, is where the first United States Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869.

The spot where the west coast's Central Pacific Railroad joined the east's Union Pacific Railroad is marked with an iconin golden spike.

After the golden spike was in the ground, the Union Pacific engine No. 119 nearly touched the Central Pacific engine Jupiter. This monumental location was declared a National Historic Site in 1957.

While at the site, join an auto tour of the Promontory Summit, or stroll through the visitor center for historical artifacts – as well as the famous Champagne Photo. Tour the engine house for replicas of both engines, or visit between early May and Columbus Day to catch reenactments of the Golden Spike Ceremony – plus steam demonstrations from engines No. 119 and Jupiter.

Powder Mountain Resort

Located east of Eden, the Powder Mountain Resort is a 7,000-acre ski area set in northern Utah near Ogden. Found north of Salt Lake City, Powder Mountain is said to be the nation’s largest ski area by acreage.

Powder Mountain ski area yields 144 runs – plus two terrain parks, night skiing, snowcat skiing, and side country skiing. Established in 1971, Powder offers 350 annual inches of snowfall, and a lift capacity of over 6,000 skiers per hour.

Snowbasin Resort

Set in in Weber County, Snowbasin Resort is a ski area set in northern Utah near the city of Ogden. Found north of Salt Lake City at Mount Ogden, Snowbasin was established in 1939 – making it one of the nation’s oldest ski resorts.

Snowbasin Resort features 104 ski runs across 3,000 skiable acres. Host of the 2002 Winter Olympic alpine skiing events, Snowbasin draws 350 inches of annual snowfall. The ski season ranging from late-November to mid-April, Snowbasin also features three terrain parks.

Sundance Film Festival

Established in 1981, the famous Sundance Film Festival is held each January in Park City, located in northern Utah. Set Ogden and Salt Lake City, SFF showcases American-made films from independent artists worldwide, and promotes Utah film making.

Competitive sections of the Sundance Film Festival include documentary films, short films, and feature films. Throughout SFF history, many independent filmmakers have showcased their work, including Quentin Tarantino and Steven Soderbergh.

Temple Square

Owned and operated by the LDS Church, Temple Square is a 10-acre destination perfect for a look at some of the history pertaining to the church and its ties to the area. Wolf Mountain Resort

Set near the city of Eden, Wolf Mountain Resort is a ski area located in northern Utah in the city of Ogden. Found in Nordic Valley north of Salt Lake City, Wolf Mountain offers 20 runs across 100 skiable acres.

Wolf Mountain ski area boasts a base elevation of 5,500 feet, and 350 inches of annual snowfall. Wolf also features night skiing, terrain parks, and a lift capacity of up to 2,800 skiers per hour.
