Visiting SLC & Northern Utah

Fall and winter in Northern Utah bring college sports and local rivalries, spectacular Wasatch Mountains filled with autumn leaves, and the promise of skiing the "Greatest Snow on Earth". Take advantage of sunny fall days to enjoy your favorite high school and college football teams – all too soon, Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake will be blazing with twinkling holiday lights.

Vernal, in the northeast of the Beehive State, is called Utah’s Dinosaurland. Explore extensive dinosaur bones partially exposed in their final resting place at Dinosaur Nation Monument. The Utah Field House of Natural History State Park in downtown Vernal features life-size dinosaur replicas in the Dinosaur Gardens and extensive exhibits models and puzzles to make dinosaur discovery fun.

Red Fleet State Park, on Utah Highway 191, 10 miles north of Vernal, is home to the Dinosaur Trackway, where hundreds of ancient tracks are located. Visitors to Roosevelt and Ballard are sure to extend their trip east to discover Utah’s Dinosaurland.

Logan is the hub of Northern Utah’s Cache Valley. The home of Utah State University, this is the season for popular USU Aggie Athletics football and basketball. Join the excitement on Merlin Olsen Field this fall at Romney Stadium with Aggies football. Dee Glen Smith Spectrum is the place to late fall and winter for Aggies men’s and women’s basketball.

Weber County’s Ogden Nature Center hosts Creatures of the Night October 18th and 19th for some fantastic family fun. Come in costume and bring a flashlight for an evening of games, stories and crafts educating visitors on the creatures of the night. Explore the bat cave, wind through a spider web crawls and enjoy treats by a campfire. Make Ogden a destination for Halloween 2013. Return to the Ogden Nature Center on December 7th for the Holiday Open House.

As a recent Winter Olympics host city, Salt Lake City and surrounding communities continue to draw athletes and spectators to world-class facilities throughout the Wasatch Front. Park City is home to the Utah Olympic Park that includes courses for the luge, bobsled and skeleton – all just south of Interstate 80 at Kimball Junction. Alpine and Nordic ski courses are located on the outskirts of downtown Park City.

In Salt Lake City, the Olympic Flame and medal stage can be seen at the south end of University of Utah Rice Eccles Stadium. Fall and winter bring the Essent ISU Long Track Speed Skating World Cup to the Utah Olympic Oval November 15th through the 17th, and the U.S. Speedskating Olympic Trials December 27th, 2013, through January 5th, 2014.
