Even as summer wanes, Salt Lake City’s residents and visitors continue to enjoy temperatures in the 70s and 80s, and this season’s event calendar is an invitation to get outside. Before the snow returns, Snowbird Ski Area, nestled between Mount Superior and Mount Baldy, draws visitors from SLC, Park City, Midvale, and beyond for Oktoberfest 2014. Running from August 16th through October 12th, the series of features a bevy of Bavarian brews, cuisine, and entertainment expected to draw a combined 60,000 visitors.
Families visiting Lehi, American Fork, and Provo this season will enjoy quick access to a unique and edifying way to have fun, August 28th through 30th, when Mount Timpanogos Park in Orem hosts the 2014 Timpanogos Storytelling Festival. The event celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, bringing with it the talent of numerous local storytellers ready to regale with everything from fables and fairy tales to tall tales and puppet shows. The festivities also include live music and entertainment and vendors offering a variety of local cuisine.
As the urban hub of the region, Salt Lake City is a true cultural melting pot, and this season the city pays tribute with numerous festivals and special events. On September 6th, Pioneer Park holds A Celebration of Cultural Diversity featuring an array of world-class performers representing cultures from all over the world. Headliners include Japanese drummer Kenshi Taiko, La Viet Band, Mariachi America, and Little Feathers.
Foodies flock to the Gallivan Center in Salt Lake City for the 2014 Rock ‘N’ Ribs Festival. The greatest BBQ restaurants from all over the state gather to show off their most famous flame-grilled favorites on September 27th. Get a sample plate for just $3, letting you try a little of everything before enjoying live music and a merchant market place. There will even be a “Piglet Pen,” full of fun just for the little ones.
Draper, just south of Sandy off Interstate 15, is home to the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, where visitors of all ages get a kick out animal feeding shows throughout the year. Visit to see sharks ravage fish in their 300,000-gallon tank and witness Gentoo penguins “flying” through the water to catch their own.
