Visiting SLC & Northern Utah
Northern Utah emerges from under its winter coat as no less an ideal tourist destination. Ski season lingers long into spring months at areas like Beaver Mountain Ski Area and Snowbird Utah, and outdoor activities abound in places like Timpanogos Cave National Monument when the snow melts. What's more, spring signals the start of yet another exciting festival season in Salt Lake City and surrounding communities.
SLC sports fans are wringing their hands over the climactic ending of the 2015-16 NBA season as the Utah Jazz vie for a playoff spot. Witness the high-flying basketball action at the Vivint Smart Home Arena, a few nights a week through April 11th, when the team plays their last home game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks.
On May 21st, families find a sense of Salt Lake City’s rich history at Farm Fest 2016. Held at Wheeler Historic Farm, a living, outdoor history museum set in the heart of SLC, it’s an afternoon of live music and entertainment, along with wagon rides, living history demonstrations, and more. It all starts at 10 a.m.
Families also won’t want to miss Charlotte’s Web as the classic children’s tale is brought to live at the Franklin S. Fine Arts Center on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo, near Springville, May 26th through June 11th. There will be a total of 10 performances with shows beginning at either 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. Get your tickets before they sell out.
North of the SLC area, the Krishna Temple in Ogden hosts a fun-filled cultural event on May 29th. The 2016 Holi Festival of Colors is a full day of live music, yoga, interactive dance performances, tasty cuisine, and a whole lot more starting at 11 a.m.
The arts are alive in Salt Lake City and all sorts of events and festivals serve as proof. Join residents downtown on the third Friday of every month the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll, which sees area galleries, venues, and eateries open up to showcase local artists, musicians and performers. Things usually get going around 6 p.m.
Then, June 23rd through 26th, the award-winning Utah Arts Festival returns for 2016. It's an atmosphere rarely experienced in the streets of Salt Lake City, as more than 200 visual, musical, performing, and culinary artists converge with colorful conviviality. Don’t miss highlights like the 2016 Masquerade Party, and check local listings for information on how to attend special film screenings and tasting events.
