Visiting SLC & Northern Utah

As fall deepens across northern Utah, autumn colors explode through the Cache National Forest and the snowline begins to creep down the Wasatch Mountains. Park City’s Sunday Silly Markets are winding down, the Alpine Slide at the Park City Resort courses through the aspens golden fall hues, and it’s time for the last hikes and mountain bike rides of the season. Down the mountain in Utah Valley, Provo schools are back in session at Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. North along the Wasatch Front, University of Utah in Salt Lake City and Weber State University in Ogden are alive with fall activities.

Music fills the fall air in and around Park City at October’s Autumn Classics Music Festival. The 2011 festival runs September 26th through October 10th at locations in Park City and surrounding communities. Concerts feature intimate chamber music performances by renowned local and national artists. Enjoy Mendelssohn and Copland at the Park City Community Church or an afternoon concert in nearby Salt Lake City at Libby Gardner Hall.

The Utah Olympic Park outside Park City, a showcase for 2002 Olympic Winter Games competition, is open for self guided tours year round. Hurry to take advantage of warm weather activities like the Comet Bobsled Rides and Xtreme and Ultra Zipline rides – both wrap up the season the end of September. September brings the 2011 Stomp the Stairs at Utah Olympic Park. This full day of family fun features a firefighters challenge among local fire departments, a family fun walk and you can also challenge the firefighters. These events take place on the stairs of the K120 Nordic Ski Jump – take your time, remember the elevation of Park City is about 7,000 feet.

Ogden, located 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, is a historic railroad town, where the Central Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad came together. This is now the Golden Spike National Historic Site. Enjoy Indian summer days of fall at Pineview Reservoir up Ogden Canyon, waterskiing or fishing. Trails at Snowbasin, Powder Mountain and Wolf Mountain are ideal for a fall hike or mountain bike ride.

Get excited for winter skiing at Ogden’s Peerys Egyptian Theater for the screening of Warren Miller Entertainment's 62nd winter sports film “Like There’s No Tomorrow”. Join Ogden’s winter sports enthusiasts October 25th through the 27th for the opening of the film. Get pumped for the season watching extreme skiers and boarders thrash the world’s steepest powdered slopes.

Ogden’s George S Eccles Dinosaur Park hosts Halloween fun weekends in October. For a great time, join family and friends at Dinosaur Park to follow the Jack-O-Lantern lit trails in search of ghosts and goblins among the life-size dinosaur exhibits. Enjoy costume contests, refreshments and fun the weekends of October 14th, 20th and 27th.
