Visiting St. George & Southern Utah
As fall sets in on southern Utah, so do snowbirds enjoying the extended fall and temperate climate of Utah’s Dixie. St. George challenges the active with plenty of fall events. The Salt to Saint Relay ends in St. George, on September 17th after teams of cyclists make their way from Utah’s state capital to Saint George on a two day bicycle challenge. The popular St. George Marathon takes place October 6th, with its 36th year of running. The Huntsman World Senior Games follow October 8th through the 20th. School is back in session in Southern Utah and the Red Storm of St. George’s Dixie State and the Southern Utah Thunderbirds from SUU, in Cedar City are ready for football. Likewise, small towns like Kanab are in full support of their home team Kanab High School Cowboys.
Cedar City’s Utah Shakespearean Festival winds down over Labor Day, just in time for Southern Utah University’s Thunderbirds to begin football action, with the first home game on Saturday, September 15th. In late fall when snow begins to fall, all eyes are on Brian Head Resort, southern Utah’s premier ski and snowboard destination.
Looking for a challenge? Kane County has a fall adventure for the extreme athlete, the Grand To Grand Ultra. This 2012 stage race features 6 stages across 7 days and 160-miles. A unique self-supported foot race, the Grand to Grand takes runners from the north rim of the Grand Canyon to the Pink Cliffs of the Grand Staircase National Monument.
Southern Utah looks forward to the end of summer heat and delightful fall weather. Springdale, a gateway to Zion National Park, hosts the 2012 Zion Canyon Music Festival, September 28th and 29th. The 4th annual music festival features a weekend of music, food, and arts and crafts amidst gorgeous fall weather. Main Stage performers include Terry Evans, The Brothers Comatose and The Shakers, while The Warburtons and Trevor Green, are among performers on the Z-Arts! Stage. Join the fun at Springdale Town Park the end of September.
For November fun, visit Springdale for the 2012 Butch Cassidy 10k and 5K runs. Runners follow a scenic course along the Virgin River from Springdale to the ghost town of Grafton. The race takes place on November 3rd.
Visit Springdale between November 26th and December 25th, for the 2nd Annual Zion Joy to the World. Special holiday events dot the calendar including the 22nd Annual Z-Arts Art & Craft Fair, at the Canyon Community Center. From Music at the Mart and the Light Parade to New Year's Eve At Springdale Town Park, enjoy a festive holiday season with a visit to Springdale.
