Visiting St. George & Southern Utah | Fall 2014
Fall is arguably the best time to visit southern Utah. The weather is at its mildest and communities like St. George, Cedar City, and Mount Carmel provide visitors with much to see and do. From holiday festivals and special events to a range of outdoor activities, there’s a little something for everyone this season.
Kids can celebrate Halloween a week early, on October 24th and 25th, when the 2014 Spooky Town Fair fills St. George Town Square in St. George. Young ghosts and ghouls can come in costume to enjoy Halloween games, treats, music, and a range of other activities. Best of all, it’s free.
The whole family can give thanks by getting active, the weekend before Thanksgiving, at the 2014 Turkey Trot. Benefit St. George’s Dixie Care and Share by joining runners at Seegmiller Historical Farm at 8:15 a.m. on November 22nd. Choose between the Turkey Trot 5K and the 1-mile walk. After the race, attendees who donate at least three canned goods can stick around for a raffle and the chance to win frozen turkeys and more prizes.
The very next weekend, Santa’s Workshop returns for it’s 30th year, kicking off the Christmas shopping season by giving visitors a chance to browse one-of-a-kind, handmade gift items. Santa’s Workshop 2014 is held November 28th and 29th at the Dixie Center in St. George. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, the free fun also features raffles and giveaways – great prizes, like a brand new iPad Air, are up for grabs.
Springdale, set along Utah State Route 9 and enveloped by Zion National Park, is a destination for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts all year long. Visit Zion National Park in the fall to become immersed in a vibrant array of fall colors against an already-breathtaking red-rock backdrop as you explore the park on horseback or via countless hiking and rock climbing trails.
Families visiting Springdale from November 25th through December 31st will be able to get involved in 2014 Zion Joy to the World events. Taking place at locations throughout town, the festivities include the Community Tree Lighting on November 30th at 7 p.m., the Elf 3K Fun Run on December 14th, live music all month long at Supermarket Plaza.
