Visiting St. George & Southern Utah
Fall is prime time for a visit to Southern Utah, home of Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Kanab, St George and surrounding communities are ideal hosts for travelers through the region. Golf courses dot the region from Mount Carmel’s Thunderbird Golf Course; Coral Canyon, Dixie Red Hills and SunRiver Golf Courses in St George; or Cedar City’s Cedar Ridge Golf Course – fall weather is ideal to hit the links. Or, get the last hikes and mountain bike rides in through beautiful fall foliage on the trails of Brian Head Resort Bike Park and Dixie National Forest.
Zion National Park has a full 2011 schedule of Ranger-led Programs through October 23rd. Hike the spectacular scenery of Zion on the Riverside Ramble, an easy 2-mile walk, or the moderate 1.5 mile Hiking the Kayenta for a more challenging trek. Spend an evening at Zion Lodge Auditorium for evening discussions on the park, or stop by the Zion Human History Museum for talks on Zion wildlife and geology.
The town of Springdale, gateway to Zion National Park, hosts the 2011 Zion Canyon Music Festival in September. Join the community for the 3rd annual festival featuring performers like Shannon McNally, The Folka Dots and West Coast Jazz Players, September 23rd and 24th. Festivities are held at Springdale Town Park and include food, drink and arts and crafts vendors, along with a kids zone and a full schedule of performances.
St George, about 45 miles south of Zion National Park, hosts one of the fastest fall marathons in the US. The St George Marathon celebrates its 35th running in 2011. Runners and fans enjoy the beautiful fall weather October 1st for the marathon. St George hosts the Snow Canyon Half Marathon, 5K and Tuff Kids races November 5th for shorter distance enthusiasts or runners training for a Marathon.
